Heya,
Anyone looking to do some outdoor climbing this weekend? I'm not picky about the type, location or timing.

Failing that, anyone looking for a partner for some indoor climbing?

Later,
Greg

hey tim. Hangar is no doubt the best climbing gym in the SoCal area. I don't know about other gyms along the westcoast..but I know that from climbing at gyms like Rock City, Rockreation, ClimbX, and Thresh hold (which isn't too far away from claremont). That Hangar 18 is great. Most all the holds..besides egrips and some others are all Climb it holds and makes it so all but a few of the sport climbing routes and boulder problems are color coded and consist of the same series of hold. There aren't crazy secret taping systems and mismatched colors that take away from some of the "realistic" feel. Definitely an awesome place where you can get good/improve at climbing if you climb there a lot. There are kids who have been climbing at this gym for only 6 months or so and are climbing v5s outdoors. The scene is really chill too. A lot of cool people come to climb here. From my experience climbing at other gyms...the problems set here are sick and they change it up pretty often. For the summer though..it'll get really hot during the day. but greg said that there are loads of outdoor climbing..which is definitely true. Tramway out at 29 palms is a sick place that is a goldmine for bouldering.

I doubt Hangar 18 was named after the Megadeth song. Rather, I suspect both are named after a supposed "Hangar 18" of Wright-Patterson AFB (near/in the town of Riverside, OH) - where UFO conspiracy theorists allege parts of the UFO and the aliens involved in the Roswell incident (July 1947) were analyzed. Or, the Megadeth song may be based a 1980 movie "Hangar 18" which was based on the conspiracy theories. Anyway, thats my guess as to the origin of the name of our climbing gym.

Later,
Greg

Welcome to the climber's paradise of SoCal.
There is LOADS of outdoor climbing available - and whatever the time of year, you can always find a crag that is a pleasant temperature. You are very close to Riverside Quarry. Further west is Malibu Creek and Echo Cliffs (lots of stuff in the Santa Monicas). Joshua Tree, Tahquitz and Big Bear areas are of order 2hrs or so. Red Rocks, NV is about 4hrs.

I haven't seen such ads before. But, I hear that Google is getting super-sophisticated in algorithms used to target user groups with particular ads - based on things like tracking sites one visits, buying preferences, etc. Maybe Google knows something you don't .
